Sports Massage Brisbane
Sports Massage techniques that WORK
Brisbane is a hub for high-performance training, with leading Bodybuilding, CrossFit, and Powerlifting gyms, alongside health and fitness clubs and popular riverside running tracks.
Based in Windsor, our therapists specialise in sports massage therapy for people who train and compete in Bodybuilding, CrossFit, HYROX, Powerlifting, Ironman, marathons, and other physically demanding sports where aches, tightness, and recovery are part of the process.
Sports massage isn’t just for competitive athletes. We use the same techniques daily to support regular gym-goers, office workers, and active individuals managing everyday muscle tightness, soreness, and movement restrictions.

How we use Sports Massage to help our clients prevent injury
Sports Massage Therapy is a great way to speed up recovery from sports based pain and injury, but it's also a great tool for injury prevention.
Our Therapists will assess you to understand the demands of your training style, find any range of motion restrictions, and use Sports Massage techniques including:
- Dry Needling
- Electrotherapeutics
- Joint mobilisations
Our goal is to reduce any referred pain, reduce tension, lengthen muscles, and get your joints moving pain free.
What Is Sports Massage Good For?
For people who perform any sports or repetitive activities, or work in a stationary position, it's expected to see an increase in tightness throughout the body in the areas that are most under stress.
Sports Massage helps to remove those tight spots and strains throughout the body to get back to training quicker.
Our techniques reduce pain by breaking down tightness in the body allowing your body to move freely through a greater range of motion.

I’ve been going to Axiom Performance for the past five years, and the experience has been consistently outstanding. As a professional athlete, I’ve worked with a lot of massage therapists over the years, and the quality of treatment Matt and the team provide is on another level. From massage to dry needling and stretching, their knowledge and care genuinely make a difference. It’s a family-run business and you can tell they truly care about your recovery, performance, and overall wellbeing. I can’t recommend them highly enough. If it wasn’t for the team I wouldn’t be able to keep up with what I do!

I've been a client of Axiom Recovery for the past 4 years and can't recommend Matt and the team highly enough. If you're serious about injury prevention, rehabilitation, and recovery, this is the place to go. They've helped me stay ahead of niggles, manage fatigue and tightness, and prepare for competitions and events, as well as post-event recovery treatment.
I've tried many recovery and sports massage practitioners over the years, and none compare to Axiom. The team are friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in your goals. They never rush sessions or treat you like just another number. Instead, they take the time to understand your needs and deliver tailored care.
Thank you, Matt, for being such a key part of my fitness journey. Your support has made a huge difference, and I wouldn’t want anyone else on my team!

This review is well and truly overdue.
I have been receiving treatment from Axiom for 4 yrs now and wouldn’t go anywhere else. I love lifting heavy and competing in powerlifting competitions. The professional massages and dry needling I receive from Tim keeps my goals achievable. I am now only 3 wks out of my Worlds Powerlifting Championships in Brazil and thanks to the Axiom team my body is so ready 💪. If your looking for a team to fix any muscles issues or just keep your body 100% for your chosen sport or just life in general give them a try you won’t be disappointed. Plus the whole team are generally honest great people.

Is Sports Massage painful?
All Staff at Axiom Performance Recovery are Qualified Remedial Massage therapists and have extensive experience treating a wide range of clients, all with different pain tolerance.
It is our job as a Remedial Massage Therapist to gauge your tolerance to pressure while using deep tissue techniques and treat appropriately. As the body comes under stress from pain, it will tighten up to resist the force against it, making the treatment less effective.
We use the appropriate amount of pressure to resolve any issues through the body. However, you may feel slight discomfort we will be in communication with you throughout your treatment to ensure you're as comfortable as possible.

Sports Massage FAQs
Do you offer health fund rebates for sports massage?
Yes. Axiom Performance Recovery therapists are qualified providers, allowing eligible clients to claim health fund rebates where their policy includes remedial or sports massage.
How long is a sports massage session?
Sports massage sessions at Axiom Performance Recovery are typically 60 minutes. This allows time for assessment, targeted treatment, and aftercare advice.
Will I feel sore after a sports massage?
Mild muscle soreness can occur after treatment, especially following deeper techniques. This usually settles within 24 to 48 hours.
Is sports massage painful?
Some techniques may feel intense, particularly when treating tight or overloaded muscles. Pressure is always adjusted to suit individual comfort and therapeutic needs.
What is the difference between sports massage and remedial massage?
Both treatments use similar soft tissue techniques. Remedial massage focuses on treating muscular pain and dysfunction, while sports massage is tailored to athletes and active individuals, with treatment planned around training and competition demands.
Should I book my sports massage before or after training?
It depends on your goals - pre-training massage can prepare muscles for activity, while post-training sessions aid recovery. Your therapist can tailor timing and techniques. If you would like dry needling as part of your appointment, we would reccomend trainng before.
How often should I have sports massage?
Frequency depends on training load, activity level, and individual goals. This can range from regular sessions for athletes to occasional treatments for general recovery and maintenance.
Where can I park my car?
We have on-site parking at our Windsor, Brisbane clinic. Our reception will text you before your treatment with some extra instructions for local street parking as well.
Do you use oil in your massage appointments?
Many Sports Massage Clinics use oil during treatments, however we use sorbolene as it doesn't leave you feeling sticky, doesn't stain clothing and is hypoallergenic. If you would like a treatment without anything applied to the skin, just let us know!
